NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway

The NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway races that were to take place this past weekend, but were canceled due to rain, are taking place today in Forth Worth. The Samsung Mobile 500 and the O’Reilly 500 will take place in back to back race starting at 12:00 pm ET. The weather this weekend in Forth Worth was less than desirable and after multiple postponements the races had to be rescheduled. Many drivers will be participating in both races which will make for a long day behind the wheel.

The NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway has been hosting races since its opening in 1996. The track is 1.5 miles long and is similar to other speedways in Atlanta and Charlotte. In fact the speedway in Texas is owned by Speedway Motorsports Inc. which also owns Atlanta, Charlotte, and Bristol. Each year the track hosts two Sprint Cup Series, two Nationwide Series and two Camping World Truck Series NASCAR races.

Today’s Sprint Cup Series NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway race saw Tony Stewart take the pole, however he ended up in 32nd spot. Denny Hamlin took the checkered flag, while cup series point’s leader Jimmie Johnson came second. Rounding out the top five are Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch and Kasey Kahne. Next weekend the drivers and crews will travel to Talladega for the Aaron’s 499.
