Ohio University Upsets Georgetown
The Cinderella team, Ohio University, was able to beat heavily favored Georgetown by a score of 97-83. Many people are trying to figure out exactly how this team was able to get this far. In the beginning of the season, they were anticipated to finish last in the MAC East conference. They were 7-9 in their conference, and were placed ninth out of the 12 teams for the MAC tournament. They barely won their first game against Ball State. As that tournament went on, they were able to beat Kent State and Miami University and held on to an overtime win in their game with Akron, which is how they ended up in the NCAA tournament.
The Ohio University team has also had its share of controversy with team members experiencing suspensions. Also the acquisition of one of their star players, Armon Bassett from Indiana, where he had been dismissed from their team. They have had their shares of ups and downs this past year, which makes it very difficult to understand how they were able to beat Georgetown and by such a large amount of points. It just does not seem that Georgetown was in the game. Georgetown is not the only Big East team that had difficulty as Notre Dame and Marquette lost their games.
Villanova had a hard time against 15 seed, Robert Morris and had to pull out a win in overtime. The Ohio University team will now face Tennessee on Saturday. Tennessee was able to beat San Diego State and earned the right to move on to the second round as well. In addition to the Ohio team, Murray State also pulled an upset over Vanderbilt and 12th seed Cornell beat fifth seed Temple in an early game on Friday. March Madness is a great time to expect the unexpected.
