2010 NIT Tournament Bracket Set
The 2010 NIT Tournament Bracket has many teams that wish they were perhaps in the other NCAA tournament. The 32-team field has been seeded after being reduced from 40 teams over the past couple of years. Of course there is still talk that the NCAA may increase its number of teams to 96, but it seemed like they had enough on their hands with coming up with the 65 teams for the NCAA tournament. The NIT tournament will be home to teams such as Mississippi State, Connecticut, North Carolina, Illinois and Rhode Island. These teams should make the tournament very exciting as several of these were expected to do much better than they did.
Certainly, teams such as Connecticut did not expect to be participating in the 2010 NIT Tournament Bracket. Due to not being able to perform during their conference tournament, they will have to settle for the consolation tournament. UConn, as well as some of the other ones that did not make it to the NCAA tourney, will have to settle for trying to earn the title of the NIT. With so many big names, it should be an interesting series of games.
Illinois did get a top seed for the 2010 NIT Tournament Bracket even though they are only 19-14. They earned the top seed due to their magnificent play in the conference tournament and just missed being a part of the NCAA tournament. They will play Stony Brook on March 17, and if they win, they will take on Kent State or Tulsa. Connecticut will go up against Northeastern and if they win, they might play Virginia Tech. Rhode Island will start off with Northwestern and will play the winner of the Wichita State Nevada game. The tournament starts on Tuesday, and the finals will be on March 30 and April 1, which will be held at Madison Square Garden.
