Conference USA Basketbal Tournament: UTEP Loses The Conference USA Basketball Tournament concluded today with UTEP losing to Houston 81-73. The University of Texas El Paso entered the tournament with the number 1 seed and was expected to win the tournament. With the loss UTEP ends its 16 game win streak.  Houston who was ranked 7th in the tournament now has an automatic birth into the NCAA Tournament. Houston’s leading scoring Aubrey Coleman struggled in today’s game going 4-20 from the field. With eight minutes left in the game Houston trailed UTEP by nine points. Houston came back with determination and outscored UTEP 15-3 down the stretch. No one expected the headlines to read UTEP loses to Houston. When the school had announced it was looking for a new head coach, friends of Natalie’s planted the seed for her to apply for the position. She gave it some thought and decided that based on her experience and knowledge of the game that she would be qualified for the position. She is currently a science teacher at Coolidge High School. She feels that she knows the kids and would be a good influence on them. NCAA Basketball Tournament 2010 We are getting very close to that time of the year that we are all looking forward to, NCAA Basketball Tournament 2010. The different divisions are finishing up their semi final games while some of the tournaments are concluding their final games. There have been numerous upsets as well as wins that have been expected. Games have come down to the final seconds, with teams pulling out much-needed victories. All of those have set the stage for the NCAA to begin announcing the brackets come tomorrow, Sunday, March 14.   The selection committee for the NCAA Basketball Tournament 2010 will be meeting at 6 PM ET, and we can finally begin to figure out exactly who is going to be a part of the 65 teams. All 12 teams in the SEC conference will take place in the tournament. The top teams in the 2 divisions, east and west, received byes in the first round. The winner of the SEC Tournament 2010 gets an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Two of today’s games in the SEC Tournament 2010 have already been played. Kentucky defeated Alabama 73-67, while Tennessee defeated Mississippi 76-65. Tonight’s games feature Florida vs. Mississippi State, and Georgia vs. Vanderbilt.  Teams are hoping for wins in order to increase their chances of being selected for the NCAA tournament. Pac 10 Basketball Tournament The Pac 10 basketball tournament will be starting its semi-final matches this evening. In the first round that was held on Wednesday, Oregon beat Washington State by a score of 82-80. As the game came down to the final seconds, the score was tied resulting in overtime. In the quarterfinal games on Thursday, UCLA beat Arizona by a score of 75-69, and California beat Oregon with a final of 90-74. Stanford beat Arizona State and Washington beat Oregon State by a score of 59-52. The semifinal games of the Pac 10 basketball tournament this evening will have UCLA playing California and Washington taking on Stanford. California is the number three seed of the tournament and is looking to participate in the championship game on Saturday.
